I know writers are supposed to be adding to the content of this site and I have done nothing up to now. I did however have something in mind so here goes. Most of you who know me know that I sing only good enough for campfires and such. Probably sing better if the room is involved in alcohol. But I do like to try and write songs. I know there are alot of you out there who are very talented songwriters. Our area is blessed with lots of good writers from what I've seen and heard. A few of us are well on their way to making something happen in their careers so their songs will be heard. But what about folks like me who are not going to be getting calls to perform? I thought a page for sharing information, and ideas would be good. I recently got a nice e-mail from a producer in Nashville who kinda says what were up against. I will share this with you and I was at a songwriter workshop in Pittsburg a while back and got a list of song contests that are supposedly on the up and up. Anyway keep writin and if I can help in any way feel free to contact me, and please share any info. you have that can help the rest of us. On second thought I never asked the producer if I could quote him on here so I'll just relay the info to ya. Basicly, he said The songs that are picked are from staff writers. Most producers that will take a song from an unknown wont have the clout to get it cut. The major acts are scared to take material because they're constantly getting sued every time a song even remotely resembles one they've been pitched. He said his best advice was move to Nashville play the political game. I will quote him on one line, the last line. " Unfortunately that discourages a lot of great writers from even being given a chance." My hope of this page is to help any songwriter to have a chance at being heard. Together maybe we can.

The 5th Annual Local Ear Reader Choice Awards was held on Tuesday February 26, 2008 at the Nevada Sunrise Restaurant. Forty-Three people were in attendance to see the twenty-six official awards that were determined from the one hundred and ten votes that were received via the voting ballot online at www.myspace.com/localear

Previously 37 people sent in nominations and those nominees along with several write ins established those on the ballot for each of the categories. Twelve other special awards were also given out recognizing other outstanding performances all derived from the musicians of Vernon County.
